Inaugural
meeting of Belize-Guatemala Mixed Commission

The inaugural meeting of the recently-established Belize-Guatemala
Mixed
Commission for confidence-building measures was held today
in Guatemala
City.
His
Excellency, Ambassador Rolando Palomo, Advisor in the Ministry
of
Foreign Affairs of Guatemala and a member of the Commission
of Belize,
welcomed the five Belize members of the Mixed Commission
to Guatemala
City and declared the Commission installed.
Commissioners
discussed general proposals for future meetings and reached
agreement on operational procedures including frequency
of meetings, taking decisions by consensus and the use of
English and Spanish languages for discussions and documents.
The
proceedings were chaired by the Co-Chairs, His Excellency
Ambassador
James Murphy for Belize and His Excellency Mr. Haroldo Quej
Chen, Secretary of the Environment, for the Republic of
Guatemala.
The
ten-member Belize-Guatemala Mixed Commission was established
at the
Ministerial meeting held between Belize and Guatemala at
the OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C. in July of this
year.
