Border Management Agency Patrol Suspended

Prime Minister Hon. Said Musa has directed the Border Management Agency of the Ministry of Tourism to suspend all border patrol activities pending an investigtion into the death of Guatemalan National Lenin Garcia Yoc.

The body of Lenin Garcia Yoc was recovered from the Mopan River near the Belize-Guatemala border yesterday morning.

Mr. Yoc allegedly fled into the Mopan River from a Border Management Agency Patrol near the Western Border point on Saturday morning and reportedly disappeared into the river.

He and his brother Victor Guamuch were allegedly departing illegally from Belize at the time of the incident.

Prime Minister Musa has expressed regrets over the loss of life that has occurred.
