Press Releases > Prime Minister returns from meeting with Facilitators and Guatemalan President

Belmopan - 15 April, 2002.

Prime Minister Said Musa returned to Belize yesterday from Guatemala, where he attended a meeting at the request of Facilitators Sir Shridath Ramphal and Paul Reichler with Guatemala's President Alfonso Portillo.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Foreign Minister Assad Shoman and by the UDP representative on the Negotiating Team, Ambassador Alfredo Martinez. President Portillo was accompanied by his Vice-President and Foreign Minister.

The Facilitators informed the meeting about the progress they were making and sought further information from the representatives of both countries.

They also informed the leaders of both countries that because of the impossibility of OAS Secretary General Cesar Gaviria being present at the meeting they had called for 25-26 April, they would postpone the meeting to as early a date as possible, when all parties would be able to attend.
