Belizeans
are fiercely proud of their small, developing nation.
We have a historically stable parliamentary democracy
unblemished by any civil strife, a sound education
system and moderate economic growth that allows us
to meet the development targets we have set for ourselves.
As
Belize harnesses its limited resources to meet the
many challenges of the new millennium, we are forced,
regrettably, to divert precious energies to dealing
with a persistent claim to Belizean territory by our
larger western neighbor: the Republic of Guatemala.
